Q1 – We have a website for our game, and/or we have already made our game available to the public. Can we still compete in Swedish Game Awards ?

The question refers to the following paragraph of the rules:

“§1.3 The entry must not have been published or marketed actively prior to the competition. Clarification: By publishing, we mean putting the game on the consumer market. Having entered other competitions, being mentioned by media, or having a project website is allowed.”

A1 – Yes! You can definately Compete, and we want to encourage everybody to use all means nessecary to make your game known, via webpages etc.. The rule refers to either the game being marketed actively and commercially by a real company or publisher, or, a game already being published by a publisher.

Q2 – I just got a job (or internship) at a company in the games industry. Can me and my team still compete ?

The question refers to the following paragraph of the rules:

“§ 1.2 Entries and participants may not be associated with, or sponsored by, a company in the games or entertainment industry. An entry that violates this rule will be disqualified. Clarification: It is allowed to start a company (non-professionally) associated with the entry. The purpose of the rule is to keep the competition student-oriented and prohibit professional game developers from established companies from competing.”

A2 – If you are talking about a real job in the indutry, then your teammates can keep competing in Swedish Game Awards even if you arent allowed. If you are talking about an internship in collaboration with an education you are currently studying, then you are still considered a student, and therefore, are still allowed to compete.

Q3 – We are using a content library, such as a Sound Effects Library, that are only allowed to be used non-commercially unless we want to pay the license fee. Can we use it and compete in Swedish Game Awards ?

The question refers to the following paragraph of the rules:

“§2.2 Entries are allowed to use existing technology (such as libraries, game engines, game makers, etc.) and existing media (such as images, 3D models, sound effects, etc.) However, teams must have the right to use the technology, media and trademarks, as well as the right to submit the final entry to SGA for judgement, i.e. respect copyrights and any applicable license agreements. The jury will take the amount of self-produced content into consideration when judging submissions.”

A3 – Yes, competing in Swedish Game Awards is not commercial use, since nobody is paying you to buy the game you are submitting.
