Description

ROPE is an easy access, pick up and play type of game in 2,5D, where all graphics are in real 3D while all the gameplay is strictly 2D platform/puzzle game. This game blends the freedom of a grappling hook and the possibilities of real-time physics together into an awesome looking and fun puzzle adventure that will have the player come back again and again to find those extra treasures. While offering a pick up and play experience that allows short gaming sessions to be really fun: At no cost this game will provide the player with a great single-player experience, putting the player in a state of flow as he fires the hook mid-air, swinging along the level and thinking about how to solve puzzles and challenges. The gameplay is set in 2D but the environment and all objects are rendered using real 3D. The player controls the avatar using keyboard and mouse, and solves puzzles using a grappling hook fired from the avatar. Using his grappling hook, the player’s objective is to reach the unique goal of every level by solving puzzles. By using object’s physics to move them around and by grappling them, each puzzle is different from all the others. The player can also use the ROPE to to advance along level, cling to ceilings and walls, to swing and climb with precise control delivered by of a simple control scheme consisting of a small number of buttons. This allows the player to focus on what to do instead of how to do it.

Some Feedback

I enjoyed this game. The feeling of continously grapple swinging, the various ways to go through a map, the major shortcuts that probably wasn't intended but fun to find and abuse none the less. You still seem to have some job to do on the grapple physics. Very often you got stuck for no reason and then seconds after you were accelerated by a huge amount spinning out of control. It felt like you were still changing the grapple length variable even though the character had an object in the way. After moving some to the side, away from the objetct, the game seemed to have compensated for the difference in position and grapple length by raising the speed which caused the sudden acceleration. Despite the fact that the bad grapple-physics caused several annoying deaths I went and finished all 3 levels. Why? Because it was still fun.
