SGA at Norwegian Game Awards Finale

Former SGA project manager John-Philip Johansson and website developer Karl Palmskog visited Trondheim, Norway and the first Norwegian Game Awards finale on Friday May 9. Norwegian Game Awards is Swedish Game Awards' first sister competition and has similar rules (50% students in a team) and timeline; it is organized by Start NTNU, the student entreprenurship organization at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim.

After arriving at Rick's Cafe in central Trondheim, SGA representatives quickly set up a booth to provide information about the Swedish competition, but also mingled with visitors and tried out the finale nominee's games. Exhibitors included the team behind Art of Survival, a role-playing game where the player controls a pack of predator instead of a single character, the team behind Trollblod, a 3D adventure and puzzle-solving game, and the developers of Continental Express, a classic adventure game. Entries held a consistently high standard.

Following a talk on serious games from NGA partner Statoil Hydro, the winners and runners up in each of the categories Best Concept, Best Web-based Game and Best PC Game were announced. Trollblod won Best Web-based game, while Continental Express was runner-up in both Best Web-based Game and Best PC Game. Art of Survival took home the prestigious Best PC Game prize.

Swedish Game Awards would like to congratulate Norwegian Game Awards for a fantastic first year, and look forward to the next run!
