Report: Workshop-08

On the 1st of March 2008, Swedish Game Awards arranged the annual Game Developers Workshop. The Workshop gathered competitors from around Sweden to pitch their game project to the Swedish Game Awards Jury. The Jury this year consist of: Oskar Burman (Avalanche Studios), Johan Lindfors (XNA), Jens Andersson (Starbreeze Studios), Thorbiorn Fritzon (Sun Microsystems), John Severinson (FZ.se) and Tobias Sjögren (Peligroso Entertainment Group).

During the first half of the day, from 10:00 to around 14:00, each team got a chance to meet the jury, while the rest hung out in the Gaming Lounge and participated in social design-seminars.


























At 14:30, Oskar burman, Development Director at Avalanche Studios, held the Keynote that started the second half of the workshop. Following Oskar, Johan Lindfors, Technical Evangelism Manager at Microsoft, Jens Andersson, Lead Designer at Starbreeze Studios and James Salt, Lead Designer at DICE, held a 30 minute lecture each in the Workshop spirit.


























At 18:00, time came for the last part of the Workshop, a two hour session themed in the topic of mods and modmaking. First up was Henning Tegen who talked about the Quake 3 Source Code and how to best use it. Second up, Filip Coulianos did hands-on modding with the Half Life 2 Source Engine and the map editor and scripting tool Hammer. Both lectures was greatly appreciated by the participants of the workshop. Stay tuned for complete video coverage on all lectures!
