Topic: Recruitment / Assets - Environment Artist Looking for spare time project

Joel Westman Joel Westman 1 post

Hello! I’m interested in joining a game development team or a group of MODDers.
The way I look at it..
I see MOD-Teams or spare time game development projects as a great way of learning more about game-engines and as a way to learn more about how to optimize work flow. I also see these kinds of projects as an opportunity to get a better understanding off the whole wheelhouse of game development.
What I want.
-I want to join a team of talented individuals that share a passion for creating awesome games.
-I want to join a project with a well thought out game idea and that has the right leadership which has a strong emphasis on getting the game done. (I’ve been on too many game projects lacking clear direction and determination)
-As far as game engine is concerned I do have knowledge of working with UDK but haven’t yet been fiddling with engines such as Unity or CryEngine but I’m open to learning those as well.
What I can contribute with
- Hi-poly/Lo-poly modeling of in game assets and environments
- Texturing
- Sculpting
- Knowledge of working with art and effects in UDK.
To learn more about me check out my portfolio http://www.joelwestman.se/.
If you want to get in touch with me you can mail me at joel at joelwestman.se
Cheers!

link? I wasn’t involved in the decision way back, but I believe the main reason is to allow a larger audience. For example; ARM is one of the main partners this year. They’re seated in UK and follow the competition way from over there. ;)

I am a bit confused over the fact that this whole website has English as the official language.

Edit: I found another topic about this that answers my question.

Topic: Recruitment / Find your game developers here!!

Ronald Pompa Ronald Pompa 17 posts

Use this forum to find our next team member for your game development.
Perhaps your in the need of a sharp programmer, Maya expert or the next SamWise-like concept artist.
Or even perhaps you’re an indie developer, but do not fill the requirement of §3.1 (rules), find your student here to fill that need and participate!

Topic: SGA Competition and Events / Feedback possible?

Simon Wagemyr Simon Wagemyr 10 posts

As I spoke to the Jury, they said they themselves would like to give some feedback on every game, but will only do so if they find the time. In other words, it has not been promised but will be done if enough time is at hand before their memories fails to produce accurate feedback. I will remind them of this to see if it can’t become a reality. I know this is something many would appreciate and so do they.

Possible issues with the rules has been found and will be addressed in the upcoming discussion regarding the rules of SGA11. We will see to it that the rules are formed to reflect the purpose of the award(s).

I believe so too. The problem that I see is that 60 games to motivate might be too much for a small jury that only has a weekend to try them out. I think this might be a very valuable addition if it was executed good somehow. I will bring this up on a meeting.

Topic: SGA Competition and Events / Rule change for SGA 2011

Ronald Pompa Ronald Pompa 17 posts

If i understand correct, you’re referring to: “§1.2 Entries and participants may not be associated with, or sponsored by, a company in the games or entertainment industry. An entry that violates this rule will be disqualified.
Clarification: It is allowed to start a company (non-professionally) associated with the entry. The purpose of the rule is to keep the competition student-oriented and prohibit professional game developers from established companies from competing.
§1.3 The entry must not have been published by a publisher.
Clarification: Releasing a game independently is ok.”

Mainly it is said that you cannot be associated with the game industry while developing your game for this competition.
You mention that a ’”published game would indicated that it had more development time”* but 50% of that team still needs to have active students. Even if they start selling their game (which is ok) they need to prove that they’re students.
I’m the new project manager for SGA 2011 and I will review the rules for next year. Thanks for your input. I will make the rules more clearer so there won’t be any confusions.

Just to add to my post. The team that i am referring to did nothing sneaky or deceptive. They had included “now available to buy” in their game trailer.

I just wanted to say that i had a great time in the SGA competition!
I am a foreigner in a team of 3 Swedish students. I absolutely feel privileged to be welcomed into the event and also proud to be the team leader of our hard working group.
With that in mind I feel obligated to ask someone about a small detail. It seems that our entry was beaten by a game that was published and for sale before the entry was submitted.
Our team would never want anyone to be disqualified or to win by default, however, we would like to suggest that the awards in 2011 enforce the rules they made in their rulebook.
I say this, as a published game suggests that a team may have had significantly more development time than a student project???
Please let me know if i have misunderstood this. I have heard that this has happened in the past in the SGA… and if a published game is acceptable then i think that the rules should be changed to reflect this in the future!
Peace and Love!
Congratulations again to all of the amazing projects that were in this competition.

Topic: Recruitment / Production manager/music seeks group (preferrably Trondheim)

Andreas Ursin Hellebust Andreas Ursi... 1 post

Hi!
We have stopped our current project due to time constraints within other members of our group.
So now I am eager to join a new group, preferrably in Trondheim, but I can work anywhere.
I will be most valuable as a production manager or project leader, securing deadlines and doing administrative stuff. However I work part-time as a video producer, and can also make music, write or be a tester (in declining order).
I am looking forward to hear from you :) together we will kick NGA2010 ass ;)
